We are ordinary folk
No sense in denying that

to hide that from you
And each other
No one will be fooled
But why would we try
To hide it anyway?
There is no shame
in being ordinary
No scandal
Still, at the same time
We have known the extraordinary
We have known your call
Your voice
Your presence
And we know it still
This is a gift beyond our understanding
Beyond our expectations
It is full and deep and satisfying
And we are healed by you
By your presence
And transformed by
Our engagement with you
The contours of this relationship
So make us receptive
Open
To you
To the things you ask
To becoming whole
And, in turn,
We will love
And help
And serve
The people in our lives
In our neighborhoods
And in our communities
Ordinary folk like us
So they may also know
Your extraordinary love
And care
